In the business of helping other companies innovate, but internal processes are old, inefficient, and expensive.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Longmont, CO (US)

I have been working at Xilinx full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat pay, ability to work from home. Somewhat flexible work hours. ESPP, 401k matching, and health benefits are all great!

ConsDecisions are made in my department by senior managers who don't understand the customers' needs. Internal processes are slow, inefficient, and error prone, and therefore expensive. Things that can and should be automated are being done manually, requiring much more work than necessary. They won't replace people in my department when they leave, so we are now doing 2x the work with 1/2 the number of people.

Although the schedule is flexible, I often have to be available for meetings early in the morning or late at night because the development team is in India and China.

Layoffs are frequent and with no communication. It's frustrating to be working on a project with someone, have them not show up to a meeting, only to find out that they have been laid off. This has happened more than once!

The performance review process is a joke. Self assessments have no bearing on grade, and bonuses/raises are not given fairly. Profit sharing used to include everyone in the company, but now only goes to some employees based on review grade.

Work + work + work + work = burnout.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with, listen to, and respect your employees. We give you a lot of our lives; this isn't just an 8-5 job. Treat us with the professionalism you expect us to give you.

Good company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Xilinx

ProsGood people, great products. Employees are empowered. Finally built a gym in SJ and it is a great one! Currently has a clear competitive edge.

ConsMany groups are understaffed and people are overworked. The ratio of workers to VP is going down every year. Worrisome trend...

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow the staff accordingly to the company's growth. You are burning out people.

Once a great employer lost respect for it's own employee's

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGood, reputable company on the leading edge of FPGA

ConsNo respect for employee's.

Long hours are the norm and highly stressed colleagues leading to a sometimes dog eat dog workplace. Inadequate training budget in many technical departments - they'd rather just fire you when things change.

Not a good place for growth come here if you've already got the experience, and don't stay too long.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a lesson from the original board, most of whom you fired or pushed out. Most of the most creative engineers left this company long ago for pastures greener, or were dumped by one of your numerous "re-orgs"

Xilinx is, with a few exceptions, a pretty well run and staffed company.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA (US)

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 10 years

ProsXilinx appears to have a good position in the market and has consistently been profitable. Benefits are good: health, retirement, ESPP, etc. Cooperation and response from most coworkers is very good. Management seems to be paying more attention to the employees.

ConsI understand that he furious pace of product design/development has taken it's toll on some employees. Constant effort to maintain/improve margins has compromised some business decisions. Expansion of overseas operations have resulted in curtailments in the US and Ireland (a pretty "western centric" perspective).

Advice to Senior ManagementThe obvious: keep looking for the balance between margins/profitability and taking care of your employees. Take a hard, long term look at where you're going to run your business.
