I am offered shift work as a part time worker, therefore if there are shifts I can do I accept them and if I cannot then I won't. There is no pressure either way, but the work and pay are good so I often accept.
Flexible working allows one to more easily arrange commitments outside of work. This is a great benefit for those that have family commitments etc
