Not flexible in reward choices
If you’re on a posting you receive alllowances to compensate you for the cost of living if it varies from the uk or hardship if the quality of life is considerably lower than in the uk
Very people orientated, lots of training opportunities including language courses and project management. Not as lucrative as other sectors especially when highly specialised but there is a clear sense of purpose.
Pay is pretty average given level of responsibility. Overall, the package is pretty good as long as you can spend significant time overseas, when your housing and many other aspects of life are paid for.
The benefits were on a sliding scale but the holiday allowance was great!
Solid core salary, with generous allowances for staff travelling overseas. Package works out very well for those travelling singly, or with partners who can work or are happy not to do so. Package less good where travel means one partner sacrificing career or salary prospects for sustained periods, something the Office had made only small attempts to work out how to compensate for.
Foreign travel and opportunities for experiencing life overseas.
