Flexible working (including working from home) can be requested informally or formally. An informal arrangement may be agreed between you and your line manager following an informal meeting or discussion
Not every manger is willing to go down this route. You still find old style management in the public sector and they are not fully equipped to handle employees working from home regularly
Lecture recordings allow the freedom to not attend lecture everyday, giving you the freedom to work on another areas.
As long as your work is computer based, it is allowed to work from home and remote access to the resource at college.
Useful to have, particularly for data analysis, writing articles for publication or PhD thesis-writing, where a quiet environment can be beneficial.
Work From Home whenever you have a reason
You are often able to work from home as long as you are available via e-mail, telephone and/or Skype. It is important to also work from the office to maintain work relationships and attend meetings in person.
I have never worked from home as my job is mainly based in the lab. I heard from people that it is very flexible.
Imperial has a good VPN service that allows you to connect from college machines from home. Some software packages are able to be installed on your home computer that can be purchased for a discount or for free from the college.
One can arrange things around family emergency or if something urgent comes up by working from home rather then using it as annual leave
