You do get sick pay, but a absence score is calculated which will count against you. You don't get sick-pay when you are on probation - which can last up to 6 months.
they comply with UK legislation - no more no less. I have not been impacted by their policy but a colleague has and they were ruthless in sticking to the letter of the law which forced my colleague to return to work before he had fully recovered from a brain tumour. This has a knock on effect of delaying and impeding his recovery
