The ability to work flexibly and around your home / family life is worth it's weight in gold. Home working and mobile working are the norm with Wiltshire Council and they have got it just right.

The financial package is ok, particularly when you factor in that compared to private sector the number of hours per week are much lower - even with the occasional evening or weekend of work it is nothing like the hours I used to work. The Local Government pension scheme is good, annual leave is above average. We have a rewards scheme which enables you to get discounts at high street shops. However it is the non-financial package which I value most - the fact that my team are genuinely flexible - people can work from home or nearest office location most of the time - meetings are often held over lync so saves travel time. My hours fit around child care, and also there is genuine flexibility when required to enable me to get a good work/life balance as long as I achieve my work outcomes. Part of this also requires flexibility on my part and I am aware that not all services operate as flexibly as mine.
