What does a Logistics Planner do?
Load planners are responsible for overseeing many planning and logistical aspects of freight shipping projects or the operations of a shipping facility. They often work at job sites based in airports, transportation hubs, or shipping centers. They track delivery and pickup schedules, coordinate arrivals and departures, and ensure all paperwork is in order. They monitor all weight and volume totals to ensure all loads are within acceptable limits. They conduct inspections and file daily logs.
Load planners typically have a bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or another business field, but some employers are willing to accept equivalent relevant professional experience. A background in supply chain, logistics, or transportation is helpful. These roles require the ability to remain organized while managing multiple projects simultaneously. Some job locations require FAA clearances or other background checks.
