What does a News Producer do?
News producers take elements gathered throughout the day to compile and create an ongoing or evening newscast. They are involved in morning and afternoon meetings and with story assignments, and they build a newscast by adding components that will give flow to the program.
News producers check stories for grammar and accuracy and work closely with other members of the production department. Sometimes they will write scripts for anchors, and they are responsible for keeping in touch with on-the-ground crews who are collecting news and timing various elements during a broadcast including the weather and sports to ensure the program ends at the proper time. News producers oversee the content, production, and distribution of the news. They are responsible for the content and flow of news distribution and need a minimum bachelor's degree in media, communications, or another related field including journalism.

- Boldly participate in the newsroom editorial meetings to make editorial decisions.
- Teach, coach, and mentor the entire newsroom in best practices for writing and producing content.
- Oversee and collaborate with Digital Content Director on editorial strategy for daily content creation and distribution across all platforms.
- Interact with publicists to stay on top of lifestyle news.
- Review daily newscasts to ensure QC, brand compliance, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff.
- Bachelor's Degree in broadcasting or journalism.
- Solid editing and scripting abilities.
- Be able to multitask and manage time in order to put together an exciting and informative newscast.
- A confident, natural leader and problem solver with demonstrated critical thinking and collaboration skills.
- Strong command of English language, experience with writing protocols, and good communication skills.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
