What does a Release Manager do?
Release managers keep software products moving through their cycles of development, production, and testing. They conduct tests on software products in their entirety alongside individual components to ensure a successful release. They work in collaboration with software architects, who are experts on integration issues and interdependencies among projects during the relief, to ensure the software works properly and is ready for the release.
Release managers serve as liaisons and communicate customer needs to project teams. They are required to help determine the best ways to schedule and utilize company resources to stay on budget and on schedule. Release managers communicate project-related tasks including plans, timelines and requirements between various teams. They coordinate the release schedule and resources required depending upon third-party applications, defect backlogs, planned releases, and infrastructure updates. They provide weekly updates on release activities and improve methodology to configure the management and development of software. Release managers need a minimum bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalency.
