What does a Strategy Analyst do?

Strategy analysts rely on data to solve everyday business problems. They provide relevant insights that help companies make better decisions, address key challenges and concerns, and identify new ways to grow. Strategy analysts identify a business’ needs and develop plans that determine the direction a company can take to actualize its goals. They gather, review, and test data and apply many measures to provide solutions to critical business issues and decisions. They address business problems with a long-term view, but when necessary, they assist in the short-term.

Strategy analysts sometimes develop pricing strategies and models, identify possible new growth initiatives, and build a pipeline of opportunities for partnerships. They work closely with product, sales, and business development teams to increase market share. They identify the business or organization’s needs and develop plans to guide and determine the direction to actualize its goals. They provide, communicate, and implement strategies to address competition and need a minimum bachelor's degree in business administration or related fields.

What responsibilities are common for Strategy Analyst jobs?
  • Provide analytical support to proper leaders.
  • Leverage insights to define, recommend and /or co-create strategic solutions for the clients.
  • Help identify strategies to grow the programmatic business, then provide key support on growth initiatives operationally across sales, marketing, and sales ops.
  • Partner with functional leaders to provide reporting on spend and resource planning.
  • Work with finance, sales operations, and deal desk to evaluate and manage win/loss data to understand and quantify customer decisions.
  • Contribute to winning profitable business by proposal writing, pricing, shaping opportunities, pitch preparation and opportunity spotting in clients.
  • Provide actionable insights and modeling to improve strategy and performance.
  • Develop dashboards, executive summaries, and weekly/monthly reports to measure against KPIs and market dynamics.
  • Support deal desk, as needed, on complex deals with deal economics and timely analytics.
  • Serve as subject matter expert (resource) to staff and stakeholders on membership, growth and operational strategy issues.
  • Identify potential business issues and develop contingency plans to effectively mitigate risks.
  • Develop business specific market, product, and customer knowledge to better serve the needs of senior staff and customers.
  • Contribute to key accounts by project manage work streams and/or leading delivery teams.
  • Present findings from analysis to external and internal clients/stakeholders.
  • Support less experienced consultants through mentoring and project-based development and coaching.
  • Create pricing models capturing the value proposition that drives clear ROI to customers and businesses.
  • Cross training and backup for team roles beyond direct daily responsibilities.
  • Work closely with department teammates to assist in evaluate, implementing and monitoring progress on key development opportunities.
  • Use a professional presentation style to communicate and creates effective visuals to convey data/info in easily digestible manner with clear takeaways.
  • Prepare, organize, and display data/results to convey targeted messages for each audience.
What are the typical qualifications for Strategy Analyst jobs?
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, business administration, computer science or engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with SQL and R Language software and systems.
  • Experience with frameworks, statistics, and algorithm design.
  • Comfortable utilizing business case development and strategic thinking to solve problems.

  • An advocate dedicated to continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable negotiating and collaborating with others.
