From a developer's point of view, this has to be one of the best web companies to work for in the North of England, and probably nationally. They have excellent, cutting edge tech (early adopters of... cloud and containerisation), truly Agile practices, and pretty boundless ambition. The business is strong too, but one of the real cultural strengths is that they are very reflective, very aware of their weaknesses and vulnerabilities and move fast to remove them. The culture is all-pervasive and mostly very positive. The atmosphere is overwhelmingly friendly, and from the top down it is a company run by, and for, real people. I really enjoyed my time here.
The location (central Manchester) wasn't right for me, but of course that will not be a problem for everyone. The car industry is facing some structural headwinds which may hit them in the future but... so far they seem immune. At the moment they are riding high, but there are some potentially very serious competitors out there.

- Novel product that works: the product harnesses latest developments in Machine Learning to bring verifiable business benefit. This product simply couldn’t have existed before. - Team culture: the... only company I have ever worked where every single employee deeply cares and comes to work motivated. - No politics: remarkably small amount of BS (no hours clocking, not many meetings) - Talented management: each of the three co-founders of Phrasee are experts in their respective areas providing strong vision and leadership. - Trust: you are given tons of autonomy (at least as a Data Scientist). - Company events: awesome company parties (especially LAN parties). - Management deeply care about their people - there are loads of examples from -- Ensuring that everyone gets home safe from parties (by sending Uber vouchers), -- Investing in personal development (Phrasee has Business School Program & dedicated time for personal development), -- Conferences (on my very second week at the job I went to Natural Entity Generation Research conference in Netherlands), -- Work like balance (last August we would finish at 3pm on Fridays, after which most of us would go to park nearby and have a picnic together) the list goes on and on.
Every issue that I have raised in my time with Phrasee has been dealt with, so now I have nothing to complain about.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing and keep encouraging people to ask questions and be involved. It is crucial to keep the channels open as Phrasee scales.
