I worked at Carestream Health full-time
Pros
Good teamwork in general with good energy to do good for customer
Cons
Too many Kodak old guard who spend more time working out how to trip everyone up than doing their job Products too plastic and not built for robust industry
Advice to Management
Advice, coach and offer support as too much of being left to fend for yourself and then criticised when things go wrong
I worked at Leica Microsystems full-time for more than a year
Pros
You'll get paid on time every month
Cons
Formulaic approach to business with unnecessary, intrusive, micro-management of just about everything. Claim to be a "caring" employer promoting "speak up" culture - could not be further from the... truth. Senior management lack experience of the markets & technology with 100% short-term focus purely on money, margin & personal gain. Sales people are expected to perform as robots following company policy & processes without deviation or imagination. Customers are seen as cash cows to be milked dry without regard. Many product lines are aging and investment is minimal to non-existent. Management are recruited externally, not based on ability or experience but their appetite for delusional self importance, ego & desire to sit in judgment on those better qualified & more capable. Short-term view of the microscopy business illustrates a total lack in basic understanding of the market. This has and will, continue to damage future business and brand perception but as senior management remain in post just for a short period, longevity and long term relationships with customers and staff remain of little importance. HR will stand by and allow staff to be undermined, pressured and ill treated without intervention. Those extra steps and commitment that most of us contribute as part of our professional lives , in many cases over many years, will not be valued at this organisation.
Advice to Management
Any advice here would be wasted, you'll neither listen nor be in post long enough to formulate your response of toe curling platitudes. Join a pantomime company where your buffoonery will be... highly regarded and your inflated ego's will be firmly in the spotlight.
