I have been working at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than a year

Pros

I have been at APCO for two years now and I still love coming into the office every day. I know that every firm says this, but the people here are genuinely some of the industry’s loveliest, most... talented and brightest people who also have an incredible sense of humour to match. Colleagues, no matter their location or seniority genuinely care about each other and regularly go out of the way to help each other. It’s probably because of our size, but so many staff here regularly travel to other locations and know colleagues far afield on a personal basis which likely helps. MDs and leadership are very supportive and encouraging of employees gaining international experience (of course speaking to our mantra of “one global firm”), and people are regularly offered opportunities for short-term business travel, yearly secondments or international transfers. I haven’t felt this at other firms I’ve worked for, where MDs would keep hold of talent in their office for revenue sake – often hindering career development and growth and ultimately leading to that top talent leaving the firm for another. What I most love though, is the opportunity to come in and be me. To have little hand-holding, and to just get on with what I do best. It’s incredibly refreshing and incredibly empowering.

Cons

As with any agency, we all work really hard to provide the best service we can for clients and sometimes that does call for periods of really knuckling down as a team to get things done. I do know... that I feel recognized for going the extra mile and appreciated. When it’s busy, it’s great to have the support of so many colleagues who I am lucky enough to call friends outside of the office. Change is a constant at agencies and we are going through a slight period of transformation. I’m sure there will be bumps along the way as we get it right, but I’m really excited to see where we’re headed.
