Featured Review

Former Employee - Telecommunications Specialist

I worked at Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Easy work, welcoming, friendly enough

Cons

They don't pay you competitive rates.

Current Employee - Environmental Permit Specialist

I have been working at Texas Commission on Environmental Quality full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

-Great people to work with. Everyone is willing to help and will work with you so that you can succeed. -Good work-life balance. As long as you're on top of your work, there shouldn't be any... overtime or weekends. Vacation requests should not have any trouble being approved. Will work with your schedule if you have been there for a while. -Good insurance policy. Reasonably priced vision and dental.

Cons

-Pay is lackluster and advancement is very rigid. Follows a strict payment ladder. Results in very high turnover. -Government work, so sometimes can feel very slow and lots of regulations to keep... track of. -There is sometimes a disconnect between upper management expectations and what is considered feasible by technical staff.

Advice to Management

Keep open communication with technical staff. Push for higher salaries.
