Current Employee - Sales

I have been working at Oracle full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Leadership have goals that are clear, Management will put a strategy in place and will offer the tactics to fulfil these. If you have better tactics speak up and ask for investment and you will get... it, have seen some silly ideas nurtured as well which is brilliant. Come up with a recipe or follow whats offered as gold standard. Plenty room, investment and support offered to test out ideas. Training and Support second to none, Training, Days, Months and Years worth free online training content available to suckle on. Most FLMs would almost NEVER say no to a training course if you have had it in your Personal Development Plan and aligns to the Goals set for yourself at the start of the year. Do contribute before you start demanding courses though. If you are prescribed a course by L&D, GO DO IT, there will always be 1 thing that you could pick up. Support. every FLM and Leader in OD, OU and BDG has real experience in Sales and has seen success at smaller or greater degree. There was a time when promotions were offered as confetti not any more, most first line managers are directly involved in deals which helps with internal and external selling. Exactly like life, you will find ups and downs! Like they say, calm waters never make a seasoned sailor!

Cons

Pay rises are not known of, the only way to get pay rises is by over performing, making to club or get closer to quota/ target and make a pay rise an embarrassment for your Manager. Promotion... doesn't always mean pay rise so negotiate well at the start of the tenure. Current circumstances [COVID-19] will test the digital-ability of Oracle Digital.

Advice to Management

Management are but executors of strategy however need to be louder in highlighting issues with the strategy to the Leadership. Recruiting: Had seen almost anyone passing probation of late, very... few managers actually picking quality to move forward which may cause some real downers in and get in the way of progress. to the Senior/ Exec Leadership, think about the Prospects as well not just our current customers. Our LoBs have clashing sales strategies [No! it isn't called complete choice, the Market is looking at us for leadership and guidance not choice!], GTM gets so complex and prospects end up getting clashing priorities, bring back chocolate bar compensation and leave it for Management to Manage! Investing in all these new acquisitions looks great in Goodwill as a line item on the Annual Report and employees take great pride in that too, but then when it comes to selling these newly acquired products, it is left to the same old sales team from the acquired company employees or GBUs, please, bring GBUs and Industry closer, let acquired products to be sold by all sales not just GBUs! JDE was a brilliant success in MSE, Netsuite will be a great one as well if the teams were cross pollinated. After all, employees are stakeholders of this company as well, not just Shareholders [bless em]. Measure Sales Reps on Sales if you pay them for sales. If you don't pay them for creating new Opps/ Relationships don't measure them on those. Many would take this as an excuse and underperform and some would thrive, why take the chance?
