I worked at Tableau Software full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
Have so much love left for Tableau. One of the best run companies I worked for. Fast changes and high performance environment - so you need to keep learning and stay on your toes. You were surrounded... by mostly clever and very driven people. Product is fantastic. Very sales focused where most operations were streamlined with focus on always improving.
Cons
Individual contributors were of very high caliber. Often let down by less experienced middle management. Often internal promotions were down to slight favoritism where people may not have been ready... nor did they have good mentors to learn from. Low diversity in enterprise sales and management which seemed to go unacknowledged.
Advice to Management
Streamlining is great. Just do not sacrifice diversity to achieve it. Be more purposeful in hiring and promoting for diversity. Be mindful of a culture where everyone is too like minded - it drives... away talent and is detriment to innovation.
I have been working at SeeByte full-time
Pros
challenging, interesting work. Lot's of scope for self-direction. Lot's of travel and training opportunities. Supportive and engaging work place culture, flat management structure, approachable... senior management.
Cons
a lot of legacy code- makes integrating new development challenging (and expensive). lack of mentorship for high-level design/software architecture company should increase investment in updating... and replacing core technologies and code base.
Advice to Management
empower engineers to investigate and pioneer new tech- and invest in it when they find it
