I have been working at The Educational Alliance full-time for more than a year
-Non-exec team staff: most are lovely people who are trying their best under difficult circumstances (i.e. a messed up organization). Met many very cool people who I hope to stay connected with... beyond my time at EA. -30 days of PTO -Great location if you're at 197 East Broadway--many good restaurants, bars nearby
-Horrible upper management. They do not respect their employees, are not mission driven, do not care about the people we serve, and are generally in it for themselves. Execs are lazy, incompetent,... unqualified, and rude, to say the least . Most of them bring very little to the table, if anything at all. -The work is unnecessarily stressful because the org is simply too big/complex for its slim staff to handle. Execs are out of touch /don't care about the consequences of their decisions to continually start "new and exciting" initiatives that they can add to their resumes, even though many of their current programs are barely staying afloat. -In short, the org is a complete mess, and there is very little structure/systems/processes. Since the people at the top have no idea what they are doing, it's really difficult for any lower employees to succeed -Diversity, Equity, Inclusion is a joke at this organization, despite the fact that EA is supposed to be, well, all about diversity (past slogan: "Everyone is welcome'; current slogan: "You belong here"). The execs and board members are almost 100% white. Micro-aggressions, mostly from leadership, were commonplace. -Poor health insurance -Sub-par pay -Overall, working here has been a very disappointing experience.
Advice to Management
If you want to make money and ruin the world, please leave the nonprofit sector and just work in corporate. You're not good at your jobs, and you've ruined what used to be a great organization.... Educate yourself on diversity and how to be less racist. Try treating people with respect.
