Current Employee - Researcher

I have been working at University of Cambridge full-time

Pros

Amazing facilities, great talks and seminars from world-leading scientists on a weekly basis, fantastic opportunities for collaborations. Great collegial life (if one manages to get affiliated with a... College).

Cons

Very very very competitive place, very hard to progress one's career within the university. Usually career progression happens externally (i.e. by leaving for another University). Forget work/life... balance especially if with a family and non-tenured.
