I worked at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time for more than 5 years
Many times the difference in the enjoyment of a job is more about the people than the tasks. That is the case here. I had the pleasure of working with and interacting with Contracting personnel... throughout the agency, and uniformly the experiences were excellent. The Contracting personnel were professional, well educated, knowledgeable of the rules and regulations that they are required to work within, and there are many, and genuinely interested in achieving the best possible outcome. Concerning the projects; this is the Department of Defense, the projects and the dollar amounts don't get any bigger!
Technology support and tools. Some tools are deployed without full capabilities, which can be frustrating. Also a primary tool for DCMA is MOCAS, which has been in use by DCMA and DFAS for nearly 50... years. It is the system that will not die, nor is likely to ever be replaced.
Advice to Management
I was blessed with good management who not only listened, but also tried to implement change and improvements as they were able. Issues that were un-correctable at the local level were escalated. Not... all problems were solvable, but upper management also listened and acknowledged and provided specific responses on what could or could not be done. All management levels were sensitive to "Hot Button" topics and did their best to stay ahead of problems and emerging issues
