What is health insurance like at AES Corporation?

Pros

Decent health and dental insurance

Cons

Zero chance to advance, so so so disappointing.

Advice to Management

Why bother offering advice, years of doing so yielded no results. I had more responsive management when I worked at Taco Bell in high school.

Does AES Corporation offer sponsored degrees?

Pros

Our CEO has done a tremendous job leading our workforce through the COVID pandemic. Weekly live updates and Q&A have unified the company and conveyed our strategic vision. Job security is good, compensation is fair, and benefits are decent. In particular, they offer a generous tuition reimbursement policy. The matrix org structure allow for exposure to many layers of management.

Cons

Work-life boundaries are blurred, especially amidst COVID work-from-home times. The workforce runs lean and I often feel like I'm treading water.

Advice to Management

Encourage more mobility within the company, both in job function and geography. Don't work on vacation or send emails with requests at 8pm; this sends a signal and expectation to everyone else to never unplug from work.

In particular, they offer a generous tuition reimbursement policy.

What is the retirement plan like at AES Corporation?

Pros

Good competitive pay and benefits. Truly outstanding bonus and 401k matching.

Cons

Micro-managing management and lack of communication between groups. No sense of urgency due to finger pointing to other teams for not getting things done. The company is deeply splintered and dysfunctional within IT and IT Security, with employees and mgmt not trusting each other to not throw them "under the bus" to save themselves.

Advice to Management

You desperately need firm holistic plans to bring all areas together across regions and functional levels. And get your management to stop panicking, micro-managing and having severe knee-jerk reactions when things are not going well. Calm down, focus and work together with a sense of urgency. And for the love of god stop micro-managing and playing the blame game and start allowing front-line managers to do their jobs.

Truly outstanding bonus and 401k matching.

What are some insights into the strategy or vision at AES Corporation?

Pros

-You get to work with some top notch, extremely talented professionals - some of the best in the area. -Work environment is challenging and interesting - you will build skills if you apply yourself -Compensation very competitive -Company is in the midst of a transformation, so it is a great time to be involved in a dynamic environment -Clear strategy and goals laid out by CEO and upper management, strategy seems to be executed well and results are evident. -Values driven company; focus on ethics

Cons

-Upward mobility becomes challenging once you reach higher management levels (senior manager and above) and it becomes very difficult to stay at the Company if you have ambition for career growth. Opportunities become limited. -There is no formal training and career development program. There seems to be a lot of succession planning and identifying potential talent, but the follow up and execution this seems to be left to the direct managers and not a strategy that is coming from the top down. -Development seems to be focused on certain individuals who appear to be in the process of groomed for certain positions. -Decisions that impact large swaths of people sometimes seem to be made in a vaccum at the top levels and then communicated in a very poor manner. Sometimes these decisions are reversed . -Cost reduction programs have been aggressive and sometimes unrealistic. It has caused a lot of frustration with large portions of the employee base.

Advice to Management

--Although the tagline of AES is "We are the energy", the focus on developing talent and providing career paths is lacking. AES is missing out on a huge opportunity to drive growth because there is a lot of talent that is being underutilized and human capital not deployed in the most effective manner due to lack of strong training, rotation and development programs. The company recently introduced a program for recent college grads geared towards future leaders that left a lot of existing employees feeling left out. I would suggest this program be applied in some format to existing employees. --All people in leadership positions should be involved in leadership and management training --Strengthen HR function

-Clear strategy and goals laid out by CEO and upper management, strategy seems to be executed well and results are evident.
