How are the career development opportunities at Aceville Publications?

Pros

You work with good people, the office is sociable, the platform is a good training ground for experience (wouldn't bother with more than 2 years here)

Cons

Salary is under industry average, condescending managers/micromanagement, lack of space to progress in career, no strong prospects for future, business often makes internal decisions that jeopardize your earning potential (i.e expand when not needed), inequality within the room is quite common - there will be those 'golden' members of staff that are rewarded more than others even if their KPI's aren't met, lack of CPD (growth is stagnant)

Advice to Management

You are just as replaceable as us, so be kind and stop caring so much

What kind of career opportunities exist at Aceville Publications?

Pros

Great opportunities for entry level roles or grads as you can learn a lot. I made a lot of fantastic friends here and had the chance to work on a range of magazines

Cons

Low pay and no review to change such which I found demotivating. No car parking or subsidised parking allowance. Not much room for growth. Would only recommend staying here for 2 years tops.

Advice to Management

Be fair and consistent with rules as different departments treated differently and it's unfair.

Not much room for growth.

How is management perceived at Aceville Publications?

Pros

Made some good friends here. Gained good experience for CV. Not bad as a first job but wouldn't recommend staying long.

Cons

Poor management. Staff are treated like numbers, not people. No flexibility. No CPD - no interest in helping staff to improve or progress. Toxic culture. Workload unreasonably high (when I interviewed for the job I left for, the interviewer even commented on what a huge amount of work/responsibility I seemed to have). There are definite favourites. Very little support from management when needed. No car parking despite not being near much. No appreciation that employees have lives outside of work and need to go to doctors appointments, may be two minutes late due to traffic, etc. Very low pay.

Advice to Management

Treat employees with kindness and respect

Poor management.

Is Aceville Publications a good company to work for?

Pros

Nice people, good vibe, creative work

Cons

not kept in the loop regarding company plans and progression

Advice to Management

Have meetings and reviews with staff who are lower down. Find out how we perceive things and give us a chance to suggest improvements to team structure and to ask questions. Take onboard our ideas. Have faith in the skills you've employed us for. Who employs a designer who chooses a colour or a font and then gets overridden by management and editorial and told it needs to be a different style or colour? We made these design decisions for a reason and have trained hard and spent thousands on tuition fees to know what we're talking about!

Nice people, good vibe, creative work
