Pros
Competitive salary plus allowances, bonus, financial assistance with accomodation. Great opportunities for hands on operations and maintenance experience as a graduate.
Cons
Culture of long hours/unpaid overtime at most but not all Anglo sites, lack of rosters that allow good work/life balance for office staff living in mining towns (monday to friday staff on salary only) lack of appropriate work or mentors for mechanical engineering graduates
Advice to Management
Dont take mechanical engineering grads, or take much less and be smarter about who you allocate them too. Head hunt mech engineers from mining consultancies who have a broader skillset and will be more useful instead. 1 of them is worth 3-5 grads and will transition quickly to valuable leadership roles. Grad program for mech engineers at anglo is not sufficient, grads are mostly allocated to departments who don't have suitable work or mentors for them, setting them up for a tough time surpassing the grad program without pursuing non-engineering disciplines. Neither of the sites I was allocated to as an engineering graduate had any mechanical engineers.
