Does Argos offer employee discounts?

Pros

If you get into the right store, you get great management and flexible working hours, 10% discount after 3 months within Argos/Sainsburys and Habitat. If you appreciate the quirks of it's antiquated archaic systems and laugh at it you're eventually learn to love the job It will improve your people skills (again depending on your store) and you'll learn loads and they'll give you support getting there. Days can be fast when busy and you'll go away feeling satisfied, the addition of Sainsbury's processes and rewards does increase staff morale. Great opportunities to progress within the business if retail is what you want to do.

Cons

Leadership within the business is very random, you can go from an absolutely wonderful manager to a terrible manager, there's no consistency! They are caught between the obsession to sell stuff and the processes that require you to sell it, they'll push you hard but forget you'll need to follow every stepping stone to get there and they panic! Because of the above the customer service can go down the drain, they're so busy looking at the numbers they'll forget about service, and they have real trouble maintaining that balance. Systems are OLD! they work but you need to know every quirk and a lot of stuff is still done by pen, paper and occasionally a printout. They seem to excited by scanning stuff at the moment, and "contactless" is very new! As for company vision, it changes it's mind every 20 days, they really don't know what to push next and constantly change their minds, and rebranding and refocusing - they are still working out social media and are just embracing Facebook, so very slow on the uptake! Still a lot of legacy issues to be ironed out, Sainsburys might just be the company to shake out all the old habits but in this company they do die hard.

Advice to Management

Certain management need to learn more than others, learn to take a vision and stick to it, make sure actions are taken with the words you speak - pushing hard to sell products without a proper reason does confuse new team members who are asked to be customer focused.
