Why do AstraZeneca employees quit?

Pros

Nice facility and I enjoyed most of my coworkers. The 4 days/week, 10 hours/day work schedule was probably the best part. Also the job keeps you on your feet and active.

Cons

They treat temp employees poorly and it takes up to 2+ years to be hired full-time. Workload is distributed VERY unevenly. I had to work overtime almost every week, and yet I would walk into the labs getting ready to leave after a 12 hour shift to find half a dozen coworkers sitting around watching youtube on their laptops. I got no gratitude for how hard I worked there in comparison to many other employees. In fact, I was abruptly terminated for apparently being tardy to work with absolutely 0 warning (an issue that was literally never brought to my attention and could have easily been fixed). Communication between various levels of leadership is horrible. Also in contrast with their philosophy "science comes first", many decisions made here clearly put money before science.

Advice to Management

There needs to be more direct communication between leadership and others. The hallway meetings are mostly pointless, no one takes them seriously. I would suggest less frequent meetings that are less structured and focus on improving the employee experience i.e. scheduling work with all employees present so that workload is distributed better and discussion can be had without disjointed communication. The lower employees are really left in the dark. I had no idea what the department goals, problems, improvements or long-term schedule was, and these are important to know for employees looking to make an impact on the company. But being treated like the throw-away temps that we are, you will never get the ambition that companies need to stay ahead of the curve.
