How do employees feel about working conditions at Bakkavor?

Pros

The only thing positive about this company is the working staff (hourly people) that stays more than 10 hours and works 6 through 7 days even though they are unappreciated and truly under valued. This company is made so difficult because the Executive and HR departments make everything so difficult. There's no communication, poor leadership, and the stress is caused by them making it so much harder on the overworked staff. This place is horrible, stressful, unfair, and the favoritism is everywhere. No set schedule, just problems everywhere, and everytime. The second good thing about this place is the benefits. And that's it.

Cons

Favoritism, unfairness, overworked, constant injuries... OSHA needs to visit this place. Mini covid outbreaks are always happening

Advice to Management

You run a bad, stressful company, and all your good people are quitting

What are working conditions like at Bakkavor?

Pros

Discount scheme is ok and staff shop is very useful.

Cons

Worked in the Spalding Warehouse. Poorly managed. Not interested in the safety and welfare of its colleagues, is in dire need of a refurbishment with the ceiling leaking and could collapse at anytime. Several serious accidents while I was there, management have no interest in changing their ways of working in order to improve the conditions for the staff and the future of the business.

Advice to Management

Management need to spend less time making excuses and more time facilitating change.

How do employees feel about Bakkavor's policy around taking breaks?

Pros

People who work there are nice.

Cons

Super noisy , fast paced working environment, back pain that never goes away, neck pain, 8 hours of ppe and mask, waking up at 4:30 am to get ready for work, your toilet and a drink of water should wait until next break no matter what.

Advice to Management

£10.00 per hour for a job that I wouldn’t do even for £20.00 6:00-14:00 shift may sound fun and all, but wait until you try it , waking up at 4:30 for £10.00, no time to stretch your back even for a second , or else you’ll miss placing an ingredient, fast lines that make you dizzy and anxious , back pain from moving fast. No human should be treated this way for that kind of money, uncomfortable ppe , wellies head cover, mask and gloves throughout the whole shift. My advice goes to the very top management, is to slow down the lines people are not animals, let them come and try how difficult it is to work in there with those horrendous conditions. And good luck for anyone getting promoted in there, there’s only 180 people before you no matter how good you are.

Events
Congratulations to our Procurement team for winning the prestigious Food and Drink Manufacturer of the Year Award at the recent Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) event. The FPA Awards celebrate success, innovation, creativity and sustainability across the foodservice industry. Each year, the Food and Drink Manufacturer Award is one of the highlights of the evening, and this year Bakkavor beat the likes of Coca-Cola, Nestle, Cranswick, Greencore, Mars, PepsiCo and Premier Foods to take home the trophy. “The award is voted for by the PFA membership,” explained Category Procurement Manager – Packaging and Indirects, William Badham, after collecting the award. “Based on their interactions with manufacturers, they are asked to nominate who they believe to be the best food and drink manufacturer of the year. Their exact reasons for voting are never revealed, but in broad terms members tend to vote for companies who have displayed category leadership, innovation and development while maintaining strong supplier relationships.” Well done to everyone involved!

Diversity and Inclusion
Today is International Women’s Day (IWD), a global day designed to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias, and take action for equality. Last year, we celebrated by supporting the IWD #ChooseToChallenge theme. As part of this, our Chief People Officer, Donna-Maria Lee, pledged to celebrate our female colleagues’ achievements within Bakkavor. In early 2021, we set up our Inclusion and Diversity Forum to develop an inclusive culture where colleagues feel valued, respected and involved at Bakkavor, whatever their backgrounds or experiences. Another key priority has been to improve female representation in leadership roles. Today, we’re proud to be launching our first 12-month Female Mentoring programme. The first cohort, formed of 21 senior female mentees, starts this month and will be followed by a Frontline Leaders Female Mentoring Programme later in the year. This is just the start of an important journey and one that will continue in the years to come. We look forward to supporting all involved and sharing our progress along the way.
