Pros

Nice and easy job sometimes, great company culture, good atmosphere, friendly staff and customers, free training.

Advice to Management

Pay extra for Saturdays, supply brand new uniforms, look after staff, don't allow workers to bully other people at work, encourage people with Christmas bonuses.

What are sales commissions like at Buildbase?

Pros

Staff discounts and banter with staff

Cons

Middle management cannot organise the most basic of renovations. I joined the business in December 2019 with the premise that the showroom renovations would be complete prior to my start date. Slightly surprised upon arrival the works hadn’t even been started never mind completed. Several delays, then Covid pushed the date back further. Management still thought it acceptable to have contractors travel from 400 miles away to complete works in the height of a pandemic. But alas they were sent that distance with not even a floor plan to hand. I have never encountered such a lack of incompetence at a management level. Basic management of the refit was left to staff but with no ability to appoint contractors to complete secondary works such things were left to myself. For a company involved in building supplies they have little understanding of construction processes. No communication between branches with regards to procedures or practices. Downright negligent attitude towards Covid, where commercial directors insisting site measures could happen in contradiction with government guidelines. A website which displays products discontinued products or sells products at below required margins. On paper a respectable commission structure until costs are discovered to be inflated on the quotation software, directly impacting earning potential. Unhelpful members of staff, who do as they please with a weak management who cannot control them. The toilets are actually embarrassing to direct customers towards. If you are a designer rather than a trade sales person avoid at all costs.

Advice to Management

Start actually managing the business, remove pointless middle management who loiter around achieving nothing than ticking a box that they have visited. Offer genuine authority/autonomy to showroom managers and essentially operate it as second businessea within the same premises. Remind Management/ HR of employment law
