Pros

They used to have a really good engineering culture, but unfortunately are losing all the good engineers so I don't expect this to last. They also had some good diversity initiatives, but have since supported publications like GB news in spite of opposition from employees. You can't fund Nigel Farage and pretend to care about diversity. Unfortunately the new CEO admits that GB news not getting good ratings is his concern over the hate they spread. Good place to coast as they keep chanting they they're agile while there is no leadership or plan.

Cons

- This organisation supports racist publications and defends their support for it - Most talented engineers are leaving, mostly senior developers too so the feeling within the organisation is that things are headed downhill - They recently restructured to get rid of a lot of people. They keep saying 'agile' over and over, but everything is in chaos and nobody knows what the new team structures are - expect chaos well into mid-2022 - toxic management and communication. The CTO recently blew up and acted very unprofessionally on a recorded public zoom call. Then they fired everyone who they thought were the troublemakers. The CTO did not apologise or get into any trouble (sign of a pretty toxic organisation) - New CEO's approach is from the 1950's and his only loyalty is towards the shareholders, so don't expect much from the employees point of view. Everything I've mentioned above is verifiable information. They used to be an excellent company, but the management and culture have changed for the worse, and I can't recommend that anyone who is serious about their career work here

Advice to Management

Stop defending Nigel Farage, stop funding hate.

Pros

Very few now that the culture is damaged

Cons

Company restructuring to "be closer to the customer" and recent events have caused this company to be a shadow of itself. The company advertises on GB News and when challenged by members of staff, the CEO gaslighted those people on how they should talk to others. CTO aggressively shouted at people on a video call for asking for clarification on the work from home policy, which differs between different sections of the company. Lack of transparency throughout senior management. Advocate for D&I with little actual changes being made, a lot of the roles that were made redundant in tech were occupied by women. Most of senior management all white males who discuss the need for diversity but are replaced in 6 months by another white male. Huge turn over in C level management in the last year or so. If you value company culture to be safe and inclusive, CTM is no longer the place for you.

Advice to Management

Stop pretending to care about the staff and be more transparent

MyBnk is our charity partner and we recently welcomed two of their expert trainers into our offices to host our first Meerkat Money School for our colleagues and their children. MyBnk delivered their interactive financial education programme, Money Twist, which is designed to set positive money habits and mind-sets from an early age, teaching our very own pupils to become informed consumers, savvy savers and mindful spenders! MyBnk commented, “We had a wonderful time at Compare the Market's Meerkat Money School! It's a fantastic initiative that brought together lots of fun, laughter, and learning about money. It speaks volumes about the culture at Compare the Market to not only offer such an event - but to also have had the parents in the classroom, engaged and learning alongside their kids!” The day was a huge success with the children loving their free breakfast and lunch in our restaurant, a fun-filled goodie bag, amazing cookies and an afternoon of crafts… not forgetting the money tips they walked away with!
