Does Compare The Market have an on site gym?

Pros

CTM has grown and evolved a unique work culture over the years I have worked here. However, co-operation, openness and mutual support have always remained a part of the DNA of the culture, as the business has grown to the size it is today. The environment is, as you'd expect from a market leader, very fast-paced at times, but the variety of work you can get exposed to and the ability to both engage in many aspects of the business and be allowed develop into new roles, is a particular facet of working here, that has kept me at this place for over a third of my working life. In recent years the Graduate and Apprentice schemes have proved fantastic additions, if you're early in your career, this is a fantastic place to both learn and succeed quickly. On-site facilities are great and whilst there aren't quite so many team-level celebrations and fun things as there was a few years ago, there are good efforts to treat staff well, build positive cultures and foster a sense of fun whilst doing it too.

Cons

Never seemed to manage significant organisational change well. I've never worked for any company that has done this well in the past, but having been through a few now, with different goals and different management teams, it always comes with a disproportionate degree of disruption and staff disgruntlement. Slow to reward achievement and long service, both financially and through promotion from within, without some serious encouragement. Partly personal observation, but have lost several colleagues over the years as a result of them being openly discounted from succession planning for no legitimate reasons.

What are meetings like at Compare The Market?

Pros

Very few now that the culture is damaged

Cons

Company restructuring to "be closer to the customer" and recent events have caused this company to be a shadow of itself. The company advertises on GB News and when challenged by members of staff, the CEO gaslighted those people on how they should talk to others. CTO aggressively shouted at people on a video call for asking for clarification on the work from home policy, which differs between different sections of the company. Lack of transparency throughout senior management. Advocate for D&I with little actual changes being made, a lot of the roles that were made redundant in tech were occupied by women. Most of senior management all white males who discuss the need for diversity but are replaced in 6 months by another white male. Huge turn over in C level management in the last year or so. If you value company culture to be safe and inclusive, CTM is no longer the place for you.

Advice to Management

Stop pretending to care about the staff and be more transparent

What is typically worn or allowed to be worn at work at Compare The Market?

Pros

Incredible line management support, where work-life balance and flexibility is priority and taken seriously. Granted autonomy and responsibility. Ability to be yourself at work. 'Dress for your day' dress code. Very open hybrid working policy, openness to work from home, Peterborough, or London office. Household brand across the UK and genuinely exciting purpose of aiming to make household admin as quick and easy as possible. Great opportunities to work across the business and with multiple stakeholders. Great software and modern tech makes collaborative working extremely easy.

Cons

Limited permission to make mistakes. Recent organisational change has caused extreme turbulence within the company which is slowly balancing out but there is still a degree of uncertainty and lacking motivation. Priorities change too quickly for the speed of delivery reducing the feeling of accomplishment as the goal posts keep changing.

Advice to Management

The Exec aren't always as transparent as they should be. Career development is of vital importance to a Graduate - take this seriously. The lack of succession planning can be demotivating.

Events
As part of our recent Purpose Week, we ran our 2nd #hackathon event and it was amazing... everyone involved absolutely loved it 😍 But, we hear you say, What’s a 'Hackathon'? So, the official line is: “A Hackathon, also known as a codefest, is a social coding event that brings computer programmers and other interested people together to improve upon or build a new software programme”. For us, it was the perfect opportunity to bring together colleagues from across the business to work in teams and provide solutions to one of three scenarios where we could help our customers even more... and what a fantastic job they did!! Check out our brilliant teams in the video... it's collaboration at its best!
