Does Discover offer relocation assistance?

Pros

-Flexible work from home, handled COVID outstandingly -Generous PTO -Great benefits package -Impressive office campus -Diverse culture

Cons

-ZERO onboarding for new employees There is no guidance on how to setup payroll, benefits, anything. Nor is there a comprehensive list of all perks. I was handed a laptop and shown to a desk, and had to resort to tribal knowledge from co-workers. When this point was brought up to CIO Amir Arooni during a town hall his response was "you should ask to be onboarded". No, you should have these things in place for employees who have zero knowledge of your environment or systems. It shouldn't fall on the neophyte to navigate blindly. -Convoluted work processes Even simple work takes months. Teams are heavily siloed, and internal efforts are always prioritized to external. Cooperation is not the norm. -High pressure to deliver constantly You have to substantiate your worth every single sprint. And given the time it takes to get significant work done this is stressful. Clear goals and planning from the top does not filter down properly to the people turning the cranks, and often time is wasted on threads that are ultimately abandoned.

Advice to Management

Get the high-level picture clear and defined months in advance. This is a giant financial institution, it cannot be run with the agility of a start-up. The company direction should be defined prior to asking the underlying teams to deliver immediately. This is a ship without a competent navigator. Also, for crying out loud onboard your new employees properly! How is there no formalized orientation? And physical security doesn't count. New hires should be shown where and how to setup their payroll, where and how to sign-up for insurance, etc. You've put all of that on the managers and they're so swamped that it just falls off.

Does Discover offer life insurance?

Pros

Consistent Schedule Great team environment with coworkers Great insurance Amazing time off plan Amazing team leadership

Cons

1. Underpaid for the amount of abuse you take from customers. The amount of verbal and emotional abuse you take is extreme and it’s very rare that you are allowed to do anything about it without lash back from management, despite their claims to the contrary. 2. Survey system is unfair. If customers take a survey under your name but write the survey about a different agent it is still your survey and it hurts your job security if the survey is negative. If the customer takes the survey as a review of Discover and not of you, the survey is held against you if it is negative. Management would rather shoot the messenger than actually take accountability and fix things that customers aren’t liking. Most of the time the surveys arent actually about the agent and are about the company. Things that customers complain about are things the agent can’t fix or are beyond their control but Discover still makes you the accountable one for it. 3. Discover pits agents against each other. Your month end performance reviews are based on how OTHER agents performed compared to you, not your performance. The system is set up so it’s impossible for everybody to win, someone always has to lose. Agents are ranked against each other and the bottom 15% are in danger of losing their jobs. Sounds fair until you realize that having 95% customer satisfaction in surveys puts you in the bottom 15% because everyone else that month was slightly better. In other words - 1 or 2 negative surveys a month is a death sentence for your job. 4. No tuition assistance for students unless you are going to go on a career path that is valuable to the company 5. Despite claims that upper management listened to us and valued our insight, I rarely if ever saw things change. Since I began working for the company things became increasingly more about surveys and results instead of valuing the individual employees and their contributions

Advice to Management

If they didn’t listen to me then, why would they listen to me now?
