How are the career development opportunities at Dollar General?

Pros

Schedule work hours, good parking

Cons

Low pay, poor management, unreasonable production expectations, bad benefits, no growth opportunities, no structure, very high turnover

Advice to Management

Management needs training on professionalism and also motivation. The managers I encounter here seem reluctant to want to work for DG as well. An overall I believe that’s a reflection of how the company treats the people. It seems not to many people care to work here very long unless your in a salary position.

Why do Dollar General employees quit?

Pros

It’s good if it’s your first job, quick learning curve, small store locations so it’s easy to remember where things are if needed.

Cons

Lots of employees quit all the time without notice. Lots of shipments so if you’re a stocker the warehouse can get packed very quickly and the hours provided by corporate don’t allow you to finish the job. Things tend to pile up. The projected times to finish a job don’t include the fact that you are constantly helping customers, helping at the register when short staffed, cleaning messes in isles….or MANY other situations that happen throughout a typical work day. No room for growth, because pay isn’t worth the added stress and responsibilities. The company HATES giving hours to employees.

Advice to Management

Give more hours. Leave personal issues at home where they belong. Treat employees with respect.

Lots of employees quit all the time without notice.

How are promotions handled at Dollar General?

Pros

POV is now from being an employee, I was on contract for a few months. Department is fully remote (can be a pro or con, I see it as a pro) Team is friendly, driven and really wants the best for their teammates. It is a growing team and there is opportunity for promotions. Very transparent and kind environment.

Cons

Pay is on the lower end of the industry.

Advice to Management

Not advice, just encouragement to continue to learn and grow. Management is excellent in this department.

It is a growing team and there is opportunity for promotions.
