What is the hiring process like at Dollar General?

Pros

Hiring process was quick. If you need a job fast, go apply.

Cons

Thrown on cash register the minute I started. Not told procedures until 3 days after I started. When the manager kept hovering over me which caused me to make even more errors...THEN I got told what to do and what not to do.. The store here is a total pig sty...dirt and more disarray beyond belief.. Everything behind where the registers are is like a tornado went thru there. It's like unless u are a robot > forget it. Pay is crap. If you ever had pride in your workplace or the inclination to make a difference...go find that somewhere else.

Advice to Management

If there is a training period and/or instruction I would implement that regardless. New employees would feel more at ease if they knew expectations PRIOR to making mistakes then being corrected and made to feel like an idiot.

Hiring process was quick.

What have employees experienced with background checks at Dollar General?

Pros

This may have been location specific and the lack of order driven by the national lockdown and pandemic.

Cons

Unfair distribution of responsibilities, no professional screening for hiring creating an unprofessional staff, the manager who hired me walked out and quit without telling anybody, and that left the store with no manager for days. I found myself the only employee working and helping check out customers, it was madness.
