What is working from home like at Dollar General?

Pros

Decent pay, good benefits and usually good people.

Cons

No home life, expected to work 50 hours a week, no paid holidays, no paid overtime, no support from upper management. Not enough labor hours for minimum coverage in store. Not enough labor hours to complete tasks or work freight.

Advice to Management

Provide stores with enough hours to have Atleast 2 people on and 3 people on truck day. Back off on the customer surveys, we can’t force them to take them.

Does Dollar General reimburse for mileage?

Pros

Constant activity and great customer base. You can move up quickly in the company as Dollar General prefers to promote from within. Health benefits, 401k, investment opportunities, scholarship reimbursement, financial assistance for families in crisis, mileage pay when traveling to other stores or before you get your own store as manager.

Cons

Warehouse type work for little pay as an associate. Part time hours mostly available only. Managers are often stuck making up that time since we are salaried. No employee discount, only occasional Employee Appreciation Day Discount of 30%.

Advice to Management

Make sure you are staffed properly so you don't burn out quick. Train your team according to your own store's needs. Stay in your own zone.
