How do employees feel about working conditions at Dollar General?

Pros

Customers are great, I do love my job.

Cons

Too much to do with the amount of hours we get budgeted a week, no set schedule even after it was agreed upon so work and home balance is very thrown off. The manager stays overwhelmed, changes the schedule with no warning, at least a couple times a week so we have to work around her schedule. Some employees only work monday thru friday days. Will not bend or help out with call ins. For some reason it is so hard to keep people at our location. Probably because of the manager. She will literally be rude customers, does not help with stocking, when your line is backed up, or with much at all. Leaves the phone off of the hook. Depending upon on her mood for that day is how she'll be the whole day, if she had a bad day, she'll make sure you do too. Her needs come before everyone else's. There's just no pleasing her and she'll take it out on you through your schedule. It's stressful when there's no need for it to be.

Advice to Management

Find a manager that wants to run the store WITH their crew. Give the managers more hours for their crew so they're not working 80 hours a week and burning themselves out, leaving them hating their job they once loved.
