How are the career development opportunities at FEV?

Pros

- The new offices are seems fine (At least some sunlight comes into the office which didn't exists) - New projects are cool

Cons

- Unstructured team scheme - The "new" leaders are not experienced, communication is huge problem. - Flexible and relaxed work does not exist anymore, you have to work for specific hours even if you're not utilized. - Communication inside the department is a huge problem, there is no feedback mechanism exists. - There is no clear career progress path available, you have to wait for your manager decide best for you

Advice to Management

After the rescheduling organization scheme in the beginning of 2019, team cultures changed in a bad way. Most of the teams are different with each other. The relaxed old and good FEV culture does not exist anymore, please make some anonymous test to evaulate the chemistry between department/team leader and teams.

How are senior leaders perceived at FEV?

Pros

Benefits are very good, and the location is decent. Work can be interesting.

Cons

If you ever want to see how a CEO can come in and destroy a culture work here. After Gary Rodgers was gone everything went downhill. The new CEO was just there to please Germany, and he could care less about his American employee's. I saw it after 1 year how badly destroyed the culture was, and how low the pay was even with good benefits. Since most employee's here are washed up in their careers and will never find anything better they just stick around. You have pretty much no chance of moving up since Directors / VP's / Managers are the only one's paid a market value, so they won't leave.

Advice to Management

Get a new CEO that is American and knows what they are doing. Just because you have a PHD doesn't mean you can run a company. I'm sure tons of people have left after I did in 2015. Instead of giving good benefits make employee's pay more for benefits and pay them 15 - 20% more (which they can get in the market). I'm sure the top management is lining their pockets and scratching their heads why all their employee's leave.

How is management perceived at FEV?

Pros

- small, regional offices have decent people around - some persons in the company are hard working and honest, but they are usually new in the job field (juniors) - regional offices have better management

Cons

- HQ treats everything as a high-school project - bad management, especially upper-level - no process; or if there is one, it's some sort of secret - decisions are taken without consultation - experience and position are irrelevant - you're a number, especially if you're from outside of HQ - product quality is at best bad - false advertising - no "future" or "cutting-edge" technologies - research is mostly done at HQ, and it isn't even noticeable - no workflow - no specialized tools - no templates - no communication, just useless meetings - no long-term plans - cost-save oriented: "smart" idea of using minimalist tools for complex jobs - money oriented: "smart" idea of trying to have 50% profit from projects

Advice to Management

@HQ management in Aachen: Just quit. You're not fit for this.

Is FEV a good company to work for?

Pros

The best part of working here is that I get to experience what software development is in the automobile industry and also, lot of cars!

Cons

I'd like to see myself in a more dynamic position some day in the future. As a student assistant, my work is very limited but I'd love to evolve myself at a faster pace.

Advice to Management

My recommendation would be to introduce agile software development practices in the software development and testing department to organize and handle everything more efficiently.
