What kind of career opportunities exist at Gattaca?

Pros

The assessment centre at Whiteley was a fantastic experience, it gave me a great understanding of the role and company, as well as providing initial training which was useful upon starting my role. The method with which they coached you on a certain subject, having you come together as a team to pool your knowledge. This also being a great opportunity to demonstrate working as a team! You were then tasked with delivering a presentation based on a scenario, to see how you implemented what you had learnt during the day. This presentation was to a group of managers so was again a great opportunity to express yourself. My favourite part however was the speed networking event, where you got to spend 7 minutes each with a group of consultants, being able to both sell yourself to them, and to gain a greater understanding and depth of knowledge about the varied markets and areas that Gattaca works in. The Sales Academy training that you partake in upon starting your role is a great extension from this, building on what you previously learnt and developing it further, it was a safe and positive environment, where you were encouraged to actively share your ideas and experiences. Can honestly say it was the best training course I have been on in my admittedly relatively short career. I was immediately made to feel at home and comfortable with both my immediate team and the wider Gattaca family, the working atmosphere here is superb with everyone happy and willing to help no matter how busy they are.

Cons

Offices are based in Whiteley which can be difficult to travel to, with difficulty parking. However the company are actively trying to improve the parking situation, plus once you're in Whiteley the offices and surrounding area are fantastic.

This also being a great opportunity to demonstrate working as a team!

How is management perceived at Gattaca?

Pros

I left earlier in the year and worked for Gattaca for a number of years in Group Support. The people are brilliant, there are some fantastic individuals in the business who are great at what they do and passionate about the business. Everyone is nice and friendly. Also great socials throughout the year, which are always a highlight! Good benefits. You will have a great experience, if you work in Sales.

Cons

- Group Support staff are not valued by senior management. The business says Group Support are, by including them on certain Sales incentives and the annual staff awards, but management actions and comments throughout the course of a year say otherwise. - Career progression can be possible for Group Support, but the pay does not justify the amount of work and effort required for a promotion. The business has also had flat performance for a number of years now, which has meant no salary reviews or increases (not even inflation). However Sales still get their commissions, so that side of the business remains unaffected. Never has there been a stronger "us & them" divide. HR apparently undertake annual "salary benchmarking" though I think that just justifies what "good value" their Group Support staff are vs what the market is actually paying for those roles. - As mentioned above, the people in the business are great, but we are losing a lot of the best ones. This is not the people orientated business it once was. Gattaca lost it's way after the Networkers acquisition - something that should have been a very exciting time for everyone - but it has been scrambling to get back on form ever since.

Advice to Management

You have allowed Gattaca to lose it's way and forget what it is really about. It used to be a business I was proud to work for and a recognised employer, known for looking after it's people. I understand the business needs to get back to its feet after a rocky few years, but don't forget what you're really about and what it is that made people love working there. Go back to basics. Get people involved in decisions too. So often decisions are made and pushed into the business.

The business says Group Support are, by including them on certain Sales incentives and the annual staff awards, but management actions and comments throughout the course of a year say otherwise.

Politics, Parking, Ineffective project management. Sales career progression is swift. Group support progression is slow and relies on senior staff leaving.
