How are the career development opportunities at Haines Watts?

Pros

Really enjoying my role. Varied interesting clients and cases. A great group of people to work with. I really appreciate the positive reinforcement received from colleagues and superiors. I feel that it has been a good fit for me and am pleased to be part of the family and see a positive future here with a great opportunity to continue to progress my career.

Cons

Was difficult to get to grips with new systems and procedures. Whilst the staffing structure is great for providing opportunities it is somewhat different to my former employer’s and a little more explanation of the roles as part of the on-boarding process would have been useful.

Advice to Management

Give new starters some training on the IT systems and clear instructions on procedures. As part of the on-boarding process give more details on the staff structure and roles within the business

What kind of career opportunities exist at Haines Watts?

Pros

Great team overall, potentially exciting changes ahead, good office atmosphere (most of the time), study support package provided is excellent (except restrictions mentioned below).

Cons

Change in company procedures and ethos appears to put profit before quality and utilisation of employee skills. Work is not delegated out evenly between the team with various members of staff regularly under immense workload and deadline pressures. Study support varies from employee to employee with some employees allowed to sit exams as they please and others restricted - no standard package. Broken promises from staff appraisals regarding opportunities and future aspirations and plans. No set remuneration review and no review has been undertaken in the last 18 months - at least, not with me.

Advice to Management

Engage with employees before making significant changes to work practices and procedures, changes in benefits, pension etc. Standardise the study support so each employee is able to benefit from the same amount of support as their peers. Regular, and documented, remuneration reviews or set process for reviews. Keep to agreed goals, aspirations and discussed opportunities and if they are not able to then discuss these with that employee rather than just brush it under the carpet.

Broken promises from staff appraisals regarding opportunities and future aspirations and plans.

Why do Haines Watts employees quit?

Pros

Friendly staff and good pay

Cons

The training that was advertised with the job never seemed to arrive and I was told this was because I was not ready. When asking for help the staff and managers were either too busy or do it themselves. I have also been told by management that they did not know how to help me and blamed the pandemic for it.

Advice to Management

Change how the business operates as there are too many small issues that delay the ability to do good work.
