Does J Sainsbury give compassionate leave?
Pros
10% discount after working there for 6 months
Cons
Terrible management Too much favouritism, progression is based on who can be the best lap dog to senior management rather than those who use initiative, work hard or focus on the company values. Extra time worked is voluntary (no pay) unless previously agreed, but made to feel your job was at risk if you didn't comply. Work loads were too intense with many departments understaffed, too many departments having too many managers/ team leaders and not even general staff. No work/life balance. Disciplinary procedures started after 3 absences regardless of reason (particularly in this instance it was a work related injury, a family bereavement and a genuine illness with provided evidence from doctors/hospital). At one stage, I had to file a bullying and harassment case against a member of senior management for insulting my weight, this was taken seriously at the start with promises put in place so I wouldn't have to be around this manager on my shifts which I was happy with, until this manager was given a promotion approximately 1 month later and his shifts changed back to working when I was there again. The abuse I tolerated working here ultimately resulted in me leaving and going to work for a different company. No holidays allowed to be taken between end of November to 2nd week in January, similar at Easter, Halloween etc. which always left staff having to fight for Holidays the rest of the year, my first year at the company, I had to work 6-7 days a week and didn't get a single days holidays approved despite handing in many holiday forms, I was told these would not carry over and would not be paid to me until I had to get a union rep involved.
Advice to Management
Stop abusing your staff and the kindness of your staff members just because they are nice people or are afraid of losing their jobs.
