What is health insurance like at MYOB?

Pros

flexible working hours and location, medical insurance, superannuation and EAP

Cons

Poor management decisions over many years means that new product development has been slow & inefficient and many times thrown out because it simply didn't work - but there has been zero accountability at senior management level for this - just the expectation that the staff will work harder. Now with new owners, there are major redundancies of people with good skills & knowledge and off shore out sourcing - which means other good staff immediately start to leave - why do the job of 2 when you're only paid to do 1? I understand the need to be lean - but good luck with the future MYOB when all the good people you didn't make redundant choose to walk away. I left before the redundancies happened - but it is not a place I would recommend to work at the moment which is sad as I had many good years there.

Advice to Management

Blaming the front line working staff for bad senior product management and engineering decisions is pretty poor. Outsourcing offshore - good luck with that

How are senior leaders perceived at MYOB?

Pros

The people you work with are great

Cons

The leadership and their ability to make decisions is terrible. They have been restructuring ever since the new CEO arrived, but no amount of restructuring can hide the incompetence of upper/senior management.

Advice to Management

Address the actual problem: senior management. They are great people on a personal level, and i feel for them, but they all seemed to have slipped into complacency and the middle managers fell victim to this.

What are some insights into the strategy or vision at MYOB?

Pros

Engineers are good people. The company relies on goodwill to execute changes as opposed to structure, people will surprise you with their willingness to do things despite being time compressed by the business.

Cons

Constant rounds of terminations followed by outsourcing roles, no clear vision other than cut costs. Management will blame people (and terminate them) for not delivering when they have a lack of executable direction. The executive team dont have people skills. The relationship with consultancy companies is uncomfortable, its clear they're being positioned to take internal roles before it happens, very tactless.

Advice to Management

Reduce conflicts of interests with consulting companies. Set a vision more complex than deliver more. Restructure all at once, constant drip feeding of terminations saps morale.

Why do MYOB employees quit?

Pros

* The people on the ground are extremely intelligent and great to work with. * Most team environments enable a very flexible work culture. * Most leaders (in the Technology vertical) ensure that all of their team members take a break regularly and utilise their vacation time. * There are some strong communities of practice (in the Technology vertical) that encourage sharing knowledge and also tend to help each other grow - all driven through the members within the communities.

Cons

* A lot of the problems with delivery in MYOB arises from the inefficacies of its product team. The product team in most verticals have no clear product vision nor do the goals of the different verticals align. Delivery teams are expected to work together and produce stellar results without alignment, a bulk of which gets lost in the politics of it all. * Through the tech re-org that happened recently, how the new delivery managers were "chosen" to stay has been opaque i.e there was no clarity on how feedback was gathered and how individuals were assessed especially when the management layer that "chose/decided" had no clue or feedback about individuals. * Another inefficacy that was exposed through the tech re-org was how unprepared the HR team was with handling the severance activities - employees (who were let go) had to followup to finalise their last dates, multiple followups post their last date for payment and employment letters.

Advice to Management

Fix the product team and the right middle management. Delivery is rarely the only problem to fix.
