Does Magellan Health offer health insurance?

Pros

Somewhat flexible schedule, salary instead of hourly, fair amount of PTO/holidays for new employees, ability to do your job without feeling micromanaged, starting salary was fair, ability for some employees to work from home.

Cons

The healthcare benefits are horrible considering this is an insurance company. I am worried I will get sick or injured and need to use them one day. There is so much to learn and not many people to go to if you have questions. If you ask another department for help, you are reprimanded. The rules and guidelines seem to change on a daily basis and are dependent on whom you ask. It is very frustrating and makes the company look incompetent. Employees do not stay long due to the many frustrating aspects of this company.

Advice to Management

Take the time to know who your employees are and talk to them about their experience with the company. Listen to them and hear what is going well and what is not. It’s very clear that you do not want employees approaching you for any reason when you completely ignore them on site.

Does Magellan Health offer healthcare cash plans?

Pros

Allows employees to work from home

Cons

The benefits were substandard. Too much out of pocket for employees. They only offered HDHP with no HSA funding. HR moved to a self serve platform which would be OK if they would get back to EEs with answers. Days later employees still didn't have answers to their HR questions after submitting a ticket.

Advice to Management

I have over 20 years of experience in benefits and I have NEVER heard of being charged a $50 fee to rollover MY 401(k) funds. They laid us off when they acquired Senior Whole Health, which I understand is part of business. But to be charged to rollover my own retirement money into my new employer plan is simply gouging laid off employees, it's insulting and despicable. I emailed the HR team about it TWICE and they didn't have the decency to get back to me with an answer. Such disrespect for former coworkers and shows a complete lack of caring about employees.

What are some insights into the strategy or vision at Magellan Health?

Pros

Work from home. Direct managers are good people who try to do the right thing in the face of a lot of BS from above.

Cons

There isn't a strategy in IT. Business and IT leaders are not aligned. There is lots of talk and powerpoints but no real commitment, investment or follow though. All the promises made in the beginning of the year have evaporated. We keep rebranding the next big thing after the previous attempt went nowhere.

Advice to Management

Simplify.

There isn't a strategy in IT.
