How are promotions handled at Magellan Health?

Pros

Ability for some to work remotely at least part of the time and mission is good

Cons

Unstable and inconsistent environment. You don't know if you will have a job tomorrow. Large groups of people are suddenly let go while other large groups are getting promoted. If the point is to save money by letting people go, why are people being promoted? Company tolerates bullying and has no policy on that. Supervisor is a bully and when people have complained, nothing was done except there was retaliation for making the complaint. People not in management aren't valued. If you aren't in management, you are worthless to this company. Health benefits are awful. Promotions are not based on performance.

Advice to Management

Stop all the firings and promotions. Fix the financial problems. Write a policy about bullies. Enforce the policy with zero tolerance and zero retaliation. Offer better health benefits. Value people who are not in management. They are not idiots and have lots of good ideas.

Promotions are not based on performance.

What is the feeling of job security at Magellan Health?

Pros

There are still good people left here but numbers are dwindling fast though layoffs and people taking better jobs elsewhere escaping the despair of being under Srini Koushik's "leadership".

Cons

Under Srini Koushik's brand of ExO Magellan IT has become a real sweatshop. With all the layoffs, people work in fear for their jobs concerned about caring for their loved ones. Srini Koushik, the current CTO, has ruined the culture of IT at Magellan with some staff only staying around with the hope of securing a severance package. Things have gotten so bad with all the actual honest reviews that Magellan HR has actually solicited positive reviews to bury honest ones. Don't be fooled. All of this with investors looking to sell the company. It's a tough time to be at Magellan.

Advice to Management

Remove Koushik and try to repair the damage he has done. Won't hurt him. He's already been paid a huge amount to destroy morale. Probably too late.

How is management perceived at Magellan Health?

Pros

Decent benefits, respectful management, industry-standard pay for MFLCS, and a company that strongly demonstrates care for the well-being of its employees. I love the work, and I am glad to be a part of the valuable mission of supporting active-duty soldiers & their families with supportive, non-medical counseling. A huge pro is that there is NO micro-managing, and as long as the work is done correctly, there are no issues. There has never been any problem with pay, benefits, and the onboarding has been flawless! I had one supervisor that will always stand out in my professional experience, in a positive way, and am grateful to have gotten to work with her. Extremely supportive, a great educator, and highly informed. I enjoyed genuine mutual respect and collaboration. It has been and continues to be, valuable & fulfilling use of my skills, interests, talents, and abilities.

Cons

The least expensive health insurance plan has extremely high deductibles. It is very difficult to use allotted PTO, due to the nature of the contract/assignment. If you are working at an overseas assignment, and need to go back stateside, getting approval for PTO use is virtually impossible.

Advice to Management

Since this is a health insurance company, perhaps consider lowering the deductibles for your basic health plan. Please find a way to provide MFLCs use PTO. It is literally impossible to take a vacation, beyond a long weekend, while on assignment. Being oversees makes this very challenging. Good job on being so pro-active in caring for employees health! Thank you.
