Does Metropolitan Police Service have a pension plan?

Pros

Equal opportunities employer with good pension and long term internal development opportunities. Workplace is evolving with exposure to outsourced teams.

Cons

Slow and bureaucratic, lots of red tape limits progress but if you’re happy to work at a moderate pace and want a life time role - this may just be the very place. Experiences can vary from those that are very happy and fulfilled to those who who hate it but won’t leave..

Advice to Management

Be authentic leaders and have the knowledge, skills and experience to lead by professional example. Be the kind of leaders that people can learn technical skills from as well as those essential soft skills

How are the career development opportunities at Metropolitan Police Service?

Pros

Opportunities to gain skills and expertise that are difficult to develop anywhere else. Reasonable pay. Occasional job satisfaction

Cons

Poor management. Overwhelmingly bureaucratic. Shift work wreaks havoc on your life outside of work. No natural career development

Advice to Management

Recognise that frontline policing is struggling.

How are promotions handled at Metropolitan Police Service?

Pros

- Get exposure to challenges you would never face in another job - Excitement and active job - Lots of variability between different departments offers choices

Cons

- Very slow development and no promotions based on performance, there is no incentive to perform well which means each department has people who don't care about the work and burden others - Some departments such as the CSE are extremely over-worked and staff aren't supported

Advice to Management

Develop an appraisal and remuneration/reward system that encourages people to develop skills and promotes ambitious officers.
