How is management perceived at Oakland Innovation?

Pros

you get to work among some nice, smart people; most of the time your working hours are limited and you're not required to work more; work can be interesting; good for someone who wants to quietly do their job for the rest of the career without being challenged to learn something new or even change the way they work

Cons

the reaction of the company during the covid crisis was horrible - they showed no empathy to its employees whatsoever, selfishly doing 'all it takes to protect the business' - shows how little consideration they really have for their employees; even before the crisis, you could feel there's no interest in individuals but in purely in the whole money machine going smoothly - this place is not good for making an actual difference, learning new skills or progression - quickly, you'll find you do pretty much the same thing every week and there'll be no encouragement (discouragement, if anything) to try something else; management is inflexible and it can be extremely frustrating and impossible to try to arrange even a small thing, e.g. shifting your working day by 0.5 h; company is so stingy they will even limit your access to hot chocolate in a coffee machine to certain times during the day ;)

Advice to Management

invest more in your employees

management is inflexible and it can be extremely frustrating and impossible to try to arrange even a small thing, e.g.

Is Oakland Innovation a good company to work for?

Pros

- nice people - good working hours

Cons

- management, management, management - terrible treatment of staff during pandemic - money over everything - no flexibility - no skill development (because it takes away from the money) - entire focus on billable hours - no fun (no clubs allowed because it takes away from the money) -salary rises are very small I met really talented people but most started looking for new jobs after they realised that theres no growth and no common sense/reason at this company. So many people left so often that leaving emails were no longer allowed to be sent because it was too embarrassing for the company.

Advice to Management

stop enabling upper management, listen to your staff, you're losing good people by being so inflexible

What is the company culture like at Oakland Innovation?

Pros

Really interesting work for the most part. Lovely and brilliant coworkers. Great facilities.

Cons

Forced back in the office on June 1st 2020 to do a job that can be done 100% remotely. Complete lack of flexibility and trust in the employees: no wfh or flexible working allowed in normal times. Everything happens in the office from 9 to 17:30. Obscure and incoherent salary review and career progression process. Extremely hierarchical, and slow progression. Anything that can't be billed is disincentivised. Poor training opportunities. If you do not have a car getting to work becomes a huge nuisance after a couple of months: long cycle or completely unreliable hourly bus service.

Advice to Management

Stop enabling the owner, and start treating your employees with the trust and respect they deserve.

Extremely hierarchical, and slow progression.
