How are the career development opportunities at Oliver James?

Pros

The business has been able to offer me realistic career progression based on not only performance, taking into consideration contribution to people development and leadership of others. Support through the Covid period has been fantastic and they have ensured people’s careers were not put on hold, the complete opposite. The people are the heart of the organisation, the best team I have personally worked with over my recruitment career. Work life balance is great with ability for everyone to flex around their own needs

Cons

Can’t think of any that come to mind

Advice to Management

What kind of career opportunities exist at Oliver James?

Pros

I felt welcomed and part of the team from the minute I started. Feel supported from senior members of staff including directors and Jimmy & Ollie Able to get on with your work without being micromanaged Lots of traction and strong name in the market meaning you feel credible and valued Lots of opportunity to socialise outside of work hours, including summer and Christmas parties and other team building nights Gain some true friends! They listened to staff and reduced the working hours which shows they are listening to the employees Great L&D facilities, group and 1-2-1 training! Great central location I left for a change in career otherwise I would still be there!!

Cons

Not many cons! Of course recruitment can be stressful, but that is just the job! OJA try their best to relieve that stress as much as they can and offer support at every hurdle.

Does Oliver James have any sort of mentoring programme?

Pros

I really have loved working at Oliver James since starting in January of 2021. The team is collaborative, kind, and high performing. We've put up huge numbers from a billing standpoint which is great - it means every team is succeeding and there is a lot of money being made. The environment is great from an L&D standpoint, tons of hands on training with their P&P team. The office is in a great spot and offers an open environment. Overall, I've loved all the activities that the company does - monthly socials and summer Fridays. It's a very hard working group but everyone is friendly and knows how to have fun. Definitely would recommend this company for people with all backgrounds - entry level up to highly experienced. Another big perk is the PTO benefits - 5 sick days, 5 personal days, 15 PTO days, and 1 week off at the end of the year between Christmas and New Years. I've never had so much time off, and it's great how much the company encourages employees to use their time off.

Cons

401k doesn't kick in till 1 year in the business which isn't great. The benefits are good (United Healthcare) which is a plus but not sure what they offer for new parents or people thinking about having children. Aside from that, management is great - very open to new ideas.

Advice to Management

Keep sharing quarterly videos and making them personal. It's great to know we are succeeding as a business and to feel the recognition on a larger level.

How are promotions handled at Oliver James?

Pros

-Great office -Decent commission scheme -Pushes you to excel (in input and output) Good opportunities for promotions, often in Title, the responsibilities follow later.

Cons

-Absolutely no budget for and training, Learning and Development is in house, of good quality but spread out to thin. - commission scheme can be better due to treshholds - worklife balance is not that good. Can be way though in recruitment - strong focus on KPI’s gives room to mismanagement. This sometimes happens, depending on the manager. - The constant pressure can be too much for some people

Advice to Management

- Invest in management development (people management) - Hire more mature personell - trust in your staff rather then rely heavy on input
