What is a typical working day like at Oliver James?

Pros

I have worked at Oliver James for just over one year and it is by far the best company I have ever worked for. There are many company benefits including weekly Friday drinks, regular staff events that bring everyone together, and extended lunch breaks so that you can go to the gym. They invest a lot into their staff and provide excellent training as they genuinely care about staff development.

Cons

It can be a challenging environment as it is very target driven and the hours are long, however, the benefits outweigh this, and hard work is rewarded

Does Oliver James have an on site gym?

Pros

- Great company culture - inclusive environment, great social events e.g summer and Christmas parties are the best I've seen, weekly Friday drinks - Company benefits and commission - L&D team that you can not compare - training throughout ever step of your OJ career. - Extra half hour lunch for gym goer really helps

Cons

- As in all recruitment jobs, the hours are a little longer, but you get out what you put in. OJ recently decreased the work hours also. - It can be a tough job as it is a successful company, but if you are committed and hard working you will do well and reap the benefits.

Advice to Management

A little bit more flexibility in terms of approaching your day. if needed.

What is it like working with clients or customers at Oliver James?

Pros

- Uncapped individual commission which after speaking to friends in recruitment Ive realised is far above market rate - Fast track progression and management opportunities for those who prove themselves as capable - Friendly and sociable environment, yes everyone works hard and is here for the same reasons (to make money) however you’d be surprised at how caring and down to earth the people are here - You might think the training at your current company is decent however in reality it just won’t be comparable. It was one of the reasons I moved from my past company as a consultant and it didn’t disappoint - Global relocation is encouraged - I’ve been surprised at how receptive clients and candidates are to speaking once you say where you work - this is due to the professionalism of consultants here and excellent reputation worldwide - Great infrastructure, systems and processes as well as the back office function - makes it easier to provide a great service and saves you a lot of time so you can get on recruiting!

Cons

Not really a con as such but advice to those thinking of applying - They strive for excellence and are always breaking records so it naturally can be very hard work and a lot is expected. They will try to push you to be the best you can be so you’re one to coast along and aren’t truly ambitious this opportunity probably isn’t for you.

Advice to Management

Don’t stop caring about the people but other than this no advice - they’ve proven they know what they’re doing

I’ve been surprised at how receptive clients and candidates are to speaking once you say where you work

What is the work environment like at Oliver James?

Pros

- International opportunities - Open lines of communication directly with CEO's (as a side note, they also know everyone's names and genuinely care about each employee, globally) - Great office environment, inclusive atmosphere. - Exciting growth plans - new offices to open, promotions available at all levels. - Excellent training/L&D team! training is tailored to each individual not one size fits all. They genuinely invest in everyone's' development. - Strong branding and one of the best reputations in the market. - Extra long lunches for gym goers, happy hours on Friday, company trips (miami, cancun.....) sponsored team nights out, incentives throughout the year and quarterly lunch clubs! - One of the best commission structures in the industry.

Cons

Granted, recruitment isnt for everyone, its tough, you're dealing with a two way sales process and people making major life decisions and that's not always easy. That said, the only cons of working here are the ones which are generic across the recruitment industry as a whole. Of course there are long hours and a little stress - this is a sales environment and you'd be hard pushed to avoid those things if you want to be successful in any highly competitive environment. To offset this, OJ push to keep moral high and the sales floor as energised and positive as possible - those claiming otherwise should perhaps try and be part of a solution rather than the perceived problem.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and ignore the negative reviews. Keep investing investing in your people and developing your team leaders and mangers so they can continue to support and develop their reports and ultimately keep smashing it, together! Our growth plans are exciting and the future is bright here at OJ and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

Great office environment, inclusive atmosphere.
