Pros

Great medical benefits and I hear the retirement is okay. Safety culture is nice

Cons

- Bureaucracy and politics is rampant, to the point that it is debilitating. - Legacy company, no innovation or automation in the IT infrastructure. - HR is non existent, you are on your own for recruiting talent - Leadership competence is questionable, no technical expertise required to lead a very technical group.

Great medical benefits and I hear the retirement is okay.

Pros

Benefits: 401k match, cash pension, medical benefits FiDi location Lots of employee resource groups If you’re a parent, long parental leaves and a daycare in the building although space is limited. If you know the right people, lots of opportunities to move around and get a promotion. Big name to put on your resume. Job security- company is too big with a monopoly to fail

Cons

Constantly on the news for all the wrong reasons Management lacks any sensitivity - CEO said in press conference that the public should be so lucky to have a refrigerator to fill when a reporter asked about food spoiled during their power outages. Hourly employees were pressured by management to not book overtime, even though there were strict deadlines to be met. Only started approving OT after too many people left and it was noticeable that people were eating their time. Backstabbing among peers - I had a peer copy and paste my detailed email to leadership. She took credit for it. This was very common. Lots and lots of cliques - “inclusion” is just HR marketing I was asked by a couple of leaders to apply for a position that would have been a promotion for me but I wasn’t interested in the role. They convinced me otherwise. They ended up hiring the other person, so that they could meet an HR rule to interview 2 people for every role. The building is a dump, something is always broken.

Advice to Management

All leaders are good managers but not all managers are good leaders. You need to send all the supervisors and above to proper training. My supervisor used to raise her voice at me when we disagreed. The leaders ignored the behavior because she was a high performer. Now that I am at a new company in a leadership position, PG&E taught me how not to be a leader.

Benefits: 401k match, cash pension, medical benefits
