Does REED have a sabbatical or career break policy?

Pros

Supportive managers and colleagues Relaxed non corporate environment great benefits including discounts and sabbatical leave for long service They really seem to care about their employees

Cons

No working from home options (currently) Outdated email and IT systems (although this is currently under review)

Advice to Management

Management seem to really care for their staff and the amount of people who continue to stay here year after year is testament to that. Keep up the good work!

Does REED have a pension plan?

Pros

- reed is a fantastic place to work if you are a young inexperienced sales person. The initial training is thorough and you will be supported across your probation period to give you the best possible chance of success. - There is a very good social vibe - Reward Schemes - Great location - Internal progression is very much encouraged (to a degree) - Great values mean this is a nice place to work, there is no boiler room culture

Cons

- 5 years ago, reed was the place to be. But a lack of clear identity, product development, investment in the right marketing strategy and foresight into how the market would evolve has seen it slide down the rankings. - There are no lack of ideas, but the sales team lacked a true leader who could implement a clear, well defined strategy with proper investment. This means that you would often find new concepts, campaigns and ideas launched half baked, which become redundant fairly quickly, which can become very frustrating. -Training is basic so once you get to senior sales, the learning stops, they lack genuine sales leaders and most of the top talent have joined competitors. - reed.co.uk is an SME and the investment in marketing, people, training and benefits reflects this. - The benefits are poor, statutory pension and paternity support, which for a company that prides itself on being family run, is ironic. Though you do get free fruit and you can come in an hour late on your birthday... - There is a glass ceiling when it comes to progression, during my employment most of the sales managers used to work for RBI, so it did feel like a boys club. - There was a lack of a transparency and clear communication between senior management and the sales team, with promises that are often made, rarely delivered.

Does REED offer parental leave?

Pros

Lots of training and a great way to get into recruitment getting your foot in the door can be. Lots of incentives to do well Staff are nice and welcoming I like the freedom you get to build your own desk and go to client meetings

Cons

Apprenticeship programme is good however it’s almost impossible to do all of the work required and try to build a busy desk! If it could be shortened it would be ideal. Dress code is very strict! Certain colours (I don’t think a client wouldn’t work with us just because we wore a different colour) Incentives start good however commission for starters could be better, you can have a good month and then when you get your pay slip it’s all taxed! Not really anything noticeable. Sick pay and maternity pay is quiet poor considering it’s a family run company. Some offices really need some TLC! Ours is very poor hopefully getting off the high street soon as promised, will stop time wasters!

Advice to Management

Not set colours for clothes as this can be difficult! Shorten the apprenticeship programme (or do it all at the start) very difficult when building a new desk Sick and maternity pay could be better

Does REED offer employee discounts?

Pros

New Office People - lots of friendly people in the office, and across the company Discount club Health benefits - Dental/optical and more! Good advancement for actual Recruiters I like how James Reed keeps an internal blog, it's a nice touch. It would be nice to hear off other senior staff like this.

Cons

I think the company is trailing behind other companies which is a shame. They are getting there, but everything is a bit slow. Long working hours (40+ a week) with fixed start and finish time, flexibility is only there on adhoc and down to your manager. Working from home is so bizarrely restricted as it's just not in the REED Culture, so only a handful of people have this ability. Still has a dress code, set colours etc. The company advertises great training...but this does not include support staff. I would of loved to have been offered the chance to do more courses and learned new things that would support my role, travel and meet people across the company, but there isn't a structure in place for this. There is a great structure for advancement for actual recruiters, CDF levels and targets and salary increases ect.... but for the support departments, they don't have the same benefits no bonus schemes, no obvious advancement routes, no training. And if any advancement does exist, it's based all in London/Northampton which is such a narrow view for a UK wide company, and recruitment of Graduates UK wide, especially giving technology these days. A digital workplace project is coming, with tablets etc, which is a good thing, but I don't think this will come with the flexible working and working from home people are hoping for, which is a shame and again behind a lot of companies these day. I'm slightly worried it will be encouraged to do more work in out of office hours, now you've been provided the tools to do so, as they did with the recruiter app, and having work emails on personal phones. I've always though it bizzare that REED doesn't provide their employees with work mobiles, considering the job, and the amount of out of office recruiters do. REED is not a bad company, I've learned a lot here, met some great people and enjoyed my time here. But I personally feel like I want to work for a company that's a front leader for Work/Life flexibility and technology, where staff are a bit more trusted and given the tools to manage their own time and work. Which is why after completing my Grad scheme I've decided to try somewhere else. REED is a good fit for some, but I think I'll thrive more somewhere else.

Advice to Management

I list the above cons to share my honest view in the hopes that it may spark some positive progressions, which really need to come from the Top. I've put a lot of these points on satisfaction surveys that we're sent out, but there have been no changes in three years, which is a shame. I think my biggest point would be to move to a more outcome focus style of management. If the work is being done (or billings being made), give your employees the trust to manage their time in and out the office. Don't forget about your support teams, awards/ high achievers/events/ praise/training....I really do feel like support staff are not treated with the same rewards that drive recruiters. And considering these resources are the backbone of a company, it's a shame they seem to be overlooked.
