How are promotions handled at Santander?
Pros
Great entry level role into the finance industry. Allows you to build up strong customer service skills and be exposed to the world of retail banking. Pension is matched.
Cons
Recognition tends to be verbal and gives you a false sense of progression, promotions are rare. Branches are short staffed permanently putting pressure on staff and subsequently customers. This effects bonuses which are ‘customer service’ based, you find branches with a bigger footfall go without whilst the ghost branches get recognised with monetary award for their hard work. Computer systems are temperamental, including DATMs. Staff with children get priority with holidays, not always fair, this includes Christmas. 5% pay increase on promotion. Digital roll Out is slow - Too many staff are comfortable have been there for decades and are not willing to adapt which has consequences on a progressive business.
Advice to Management
Recognise your performers with promotions and succession plans. Shake up your staff if they are not performing. Invest heavily into digital and innovation.
