How is management perceived at Screwfix?

Pros

The culture of screwfix is amazing, everyone works together like a big family after all you see your work colleagues (a lot of the time) more than your own family. Trade customers are one of the main reasons I am still in this company, they honestly become friends instead of customers. The pay is better than most retail jobs and even better for the younger people as we are all paid the same wage (on the same level). I owe a lot to Screwfix for giving me a chance on a small contract and seeing the potential in me. If you get a good branch manager it honestly makes life and your job within Screwfix amazing.

Cons

The work and life balance is hard sometimes but I imagine it being the same for most jobs. On trade+ it isn't to bad as you do a 7am - 3pm or a 10am - 6pm if you are full time. I think one of my only cons of the company is to make the pay more fair for people that are working their way up the company as it is for people coming external. Sometimes it feels like we have to jump through hoops in the company to get a promotion where if you come into the company at a management level you get given the job on a plate. In my option people are more likely to leave the company when they are management and not value the culture of the business, coming in externally because it is so hard to pick everything up in such a short amount of time.

Advice to Management

Just because its protocol doesn't mean you have to loose your humanity . If a member of your team is ill and you can clearly see they are, they shouldn't be made to feel bad for wanting to go home or calling in sick. When a member of management is late or ill, they should get the same treatment as if they are part of the team. It shouldn't be one rule for one and one rule for management. Also do not try and have favourites (some people get on with some more than others that is life) but when one member of staff gets away with something, make sure its clear that's the rule for the hole team.

In my option people are more likely to leave the company when they are management and not value the culture of the business, coming in externally because it is so hard to pick everything up in such a short amount of time.
