What is it like working with clients or customers at Screwfix?

Pros

The staff are absolutely wonderful. Most of the customers are regulars that we get to know on a personal level. Screwfix really makes customer service work so easy and friendly that you feel at home when you're at work.

Cons

Managers change frequently, so different attitudes to get used to. Managers can be very abusive and insulting, I was told "not my problem" by my manager on whatsapp when I explained the reason why the rota change was not suitable for me on a particular day. No flexibility at all to have a life outside of work when the rota is set up even though I did not agree to the extra overtime hours. Rude and unsupportive comments when I opened up in regards to my dads new disability (complete visual impairment - blindness in both eyes) which is a very sensitive issue for me was a deal breaker for me. I could not continue working in a place like that any more.

Advice to Management

Stop changing managers so often, all managers are absolutely lovely but there is always one bad apple. Keep close eye on the store managers, they shape the store's atmosphere.

What is the work environment like at Screwfix?

Pros

Great working environment, go home feeling like you have done a good days work, bonus is good and achievable if you work hard

Cons

Upper management can have a serious affect on the harmony and can change things at a moment's notice destroying months of hard work to create a settled environment in store

Advice to Management

You have got to the position you are in for a reason, utilise the skills you have to better your store managers instead of nationalising some in favour of favourites

How do employees feel about working conditions at Screwfix?

Pros

-Some great people in the team -Some great customers -Staff discount in screwfix and b&q -Good amount of annual leave -The idea is good, just poorly executed in some places

Cons

-Poor pay for supervisors (they are expected to do the same as the assistant manager but for the same money) -Not enough staff -Rude customers -Weak management that don't have enough of a backbone to manage their staff properly -Lack of care when you're sick -Your opinion only matters if you're male -Absolutely no work/life balance, different shift pattern every week. Working full time and not allowed to take time off for appointments -Higher management have no idea what happens in their stores and judge unfairly -Unrealistic expectations. You cannot safely run a shop for 5 hours on just 2 members of staff

Absolutely no work/life balance, different shift pattern every week.
