What is the retirement plan like at Slalom Build?

Pros

- Great culture. - Many opportunities to learn exciting new technologies. - Flexible work schedule – depending on the project.

Cons

- Abysmal 401K match! Only 25% of 6% with each paycheck, then another 25% after Q1 of the following year. That’s a total of 50% of 6% match provided that you stay until Q1 of the next year. If you leave before Q1 of the following year, you only get 25%. This was one of the reasons why I decided to leave. - Pay is below the industry average. - Lots of social events outside working hours. I put it as a con because if you’re an introvert, have family or don’t drink alcohol, you will quickly feel like an outcast. - Limited career options.

Advice to Management

Please consider giving dollar for dollar match to your employees. The 25% of 6% with the other 25% contingent on Q1 does not quite match with the company's "Love Your Future" slogan.

That’s a total of 50% of 6% match provided that you stay until Q1 of the next year.

How are the career development opportunities at Slalom Build?

Pros

I would honestly say the clean facilities, non-leadership employees and events.

Cons

I would 100% recommend this career opportunity to college grade. However, I will give warning on what the employer is versus what it should be. When I began my career here, the environment appeared to be an incubator for great tech talent. Unfortunately, a series of terrible hires in leadership and the dismissal of former leaders have turned this employer into a shell of what is used to be. If you are someone who has established a career or have tenure, please do yourself a favor and avoid until a change in leadership has occurred. They will try to tell you that there is so much opportunity but you will have maxed out within months.

Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Quit making terrible leadership hires. Have less biased people in charge. Try to include others and not be a “frat”.

How is management perceived at Slalom Build?

Pros

- Toronto team is amazing, friendly, diverse, and quite a reputation for delivering cool projects. I can say I made friends for live in this team. Another plus is that senior management in Toronto cares. - Work is very interesting, and we get to work on projects across North-America with very interesting brands, all three public clouds (AWS, Azure and GCP), and latest technologies. - Toons of learning, career advancement very fast as the compamy is growing quick. - Open and transparent, COVID transparency really showed what this company and their management is made off. Never worked in a company this open and transparent. - Very social, lots of events, many clubs and opportunities to interact with peers. Hacktoons are amazing way to contribute to meaningful things. - Diversity, truly appreciate their efforts to bridge the gap on black lives matter, women, and LGBTQ+. If you are a diverse person, this is the place to be. - Big focus on learning and upskilling. Lots investment in it. Not sure I have worked in another company that could compare. - Projects: Good project delivery methods using agile, not staff augmentation.

Cons

- It can be hard to deal with clients, some enterprise clients can be political - Projects can turn out to be not what it was expected if there is no focus on the sales process
